Established in 2013, OzHarvest Gold Coast is now proud to be delivering rescued food to more than 60 charities, churches, community centres and schools across the Gold Coast. In 2017 we will celebrate the delivery of our 3 millionth meal thanks to our staff, our volunteers, our supporters and our 2 trusty food rescue vehicles!
As part of a long term solution to reducing food insecurity amongst individuals we are delivering OzHarvest’s NEST program which provides nutritional education and basic cooking skills to those who may face food insecurity.
We also launched our Nourish program in July 2017 giving a pathway to employment, aimed at vulnerable youth between the ages of 16 – 25 years. The Nourish program covers a large range of skills including basic cooking skills, nutrition, food safety, kitchen hygiene, communication skills, team work skills, resume writing and surviving job interviews, all of this leading to a nationally recognised qualification in the hospitality industry.
OzHarvest Gold Coast regularly engages the community in issues of food waste and food security at events such as our national Think.Eat.Save event, movie nights, community, school and corporate engagements.
Our team is driven by our belief that good food should not be wasted while hunger exists in our community.
